Hall of Achievement

The Southridge High School Hall of Achievement is the highest honor bestowed by Southridge High School. The Southridge High School Hall of Achievement recognizes alumni for their athletic, academic, artistic, service to community, contributions to the character of Southridge High School and their prominence after graduation. All nominees to the Hall of Achievement will serve as ambassadors of Southridge High School and provide inspiration to future Skyhawks. These individuals must be of good moral character, with outstanding leadership qualities and must be held in high esteem by their colleagues, coaches and alumni.

2019-20 Inductee Class: Darwin Barney, Sarah Boly, Ashley Charters, Rod Harman

Darwin Barney: While playing baseball at Southridge Darwin was a member of the 2002 State Championship baseball team, the first Southridge team to win a state title. Darwin was Metro League Player of the Year and First Team All-State in both 2003 and 2004. After graduating from Southridge High School Darwin attended the Oregon State University and won back to back NCAA College Baseball Championships in 2006 and 2007 and was then drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2007. Darwin was awarded the Gold Glove Award as a member of the Chicago Cubs as a 2nd basemen in 2012. After eight years playing for the Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers he retired from Major League Baseball. Currently Darwin is Manager of the Nashville Sounds a Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers and an active member of the Portland Diamond Project, a group of investors actively working to bring Major League Baseball to Portland. Darwin and his wife Lindsay have three children and live in Lake Oswego.

Sarah Boly: After being named as the planning principal for the opening of Southridge High School, Sarah served as the school’s first principal from 1999-2005. Under Sarah’s leadership Southridge High School established strong academic, athletic and artistic excellence that still continues to this day. After leaving Southridge High School Sarah became the Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for the Beaverton School District where she continued to impact teaching and learning across the district. Sarah retired from public education in 2010. Shortly thereafter, Sarah was appointed by the Governor of Oregon to the Quality Education Commission, on which she still serves. Principal Boly states “I’ll always treasure my time at Southridge and truly believe it was the most important work I’ve done as a professional in my lifetime.” Sarah and her husband Paul live in Hillsboro.

Ashley Charters: While playing softball at Southridge Ashley was a two-time Softball Player of the Year and a four-time varsity softball letter winner. After graduating Ashley attended the University of Washington from 2005-2009 on a full ride athletic scholarship. Ashley is a three-time All American, University of Washington Female Athlete of the Year and a NCAA National Champion. In 2009 The Washington Huskies won the NCAA Softball Championship. Ashley played on the USA National Team from 2009 to 2010, and on the World Championship Softbll Team in 2010. Ashley also played professional softball from 2011 to 2013 and was the 2013 Defensive player of the Year. Ashley continues to give back to the Southridge community when she is in town, by holding clinics for Beaverton area youth and SRHS softball players. Ashley and her husband Tommy have one daughter and in live Seattle, Washington.

Rod Harman: Coach Rod Harman began his teaching career in Sweet Home Oregon before beginning his thirty years of teaching at Beaverton High School in 1959. Coach Harman’s coaching career spans 64 years. Prior to coming to Southridge High School Rod Harman coached at Beaverton High School for 38 years, Aloha High School for 10 and has been coaching at SRHS, where he has continued to coach for the past 16 years. Rod has led his teams to 8 swimming state championships, two water polo state championships and 10 second place finishes. Prior to being honored by Southridge High School this year, Rod was inducted in the Beaverton High School Hall of Fame and the National High School Hall of Fame in 2012. In addition to coaching, Rod graduated from the University of Oregon in 1945 where he was a collegiate athlete and began the Tualatin Hills Swim Club in 1957. Tualatin Hills Park and Rec District has honored Rod’s service to the Beaverton community by naming a swim center in his honor. Rod inspired our community by attending all SRHS home athletic events and can often been seen in the office and halls of SRHS visiting with students, staff and community members until his death in 2020. Rod had two sons and one daughter Mark, Scott, and Karen, as well as 6 grandchildren.
