Attendance

To avoid receiving automated notifications, please be sure to report the student’s absence before the start of the school day (prior to 8:55 am). 

There are two ways to report all-day absences: 

1. You can call the 24-Hour Attendance Hotline at (503) 356-2890. 

2. You can excuse via ParentVue. Please note, ParentVue is for ALL DAY ABSENCES ONLY. You may not use ParentVue for early release, late arrival, or for excusing past absences. 

ALL DAY ABSENCES MUST BE REPORTED WITHIN 48 HOURS OF THE ABSENCE. PLEASE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION: 

• Student's full name (please spell uncommon names) 

• Student's six-digit ID number 

• Your name and relationship to the student (parent, guardian, etc) 

• Reason for the absence (from the list below):

1. Illness 
2. Medical appointment 
3. Family emergency 
4. Death in the family 
5. Pre-arranged absence (see below) 
6. Religious observance 
7. Other administrative approved reason 

IF YOUR STUDENT NEEDS TO BE RELEASED EARLY, ARRIVE LATE, OR MISS ANY PART OF THE SCHOOL DAY, PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS MUST BE MADE.

To release a student early or report a student’s late arrival, please call the 24-Hour Attendance Hotline at 503-356-2890 or send a note to the Attendance Office on the day of the appointment with your student. Students will be excused only for class periods missed during the appointment time. 

PLEASE PLAN AHEAD! Notification must be received at least an hour in advance to allow enough time for the pass to be delivered. If notification is not received in time, families will need to check into the office and wait for the student to be retrieved, which can take 15-25 minutes.  

***Notification for release from Period 8 (Advisory/Seminar) on B Days must be received by 12:00 pm at the latest. Students are often in assembly or making up work/tests in another classroom during this period and may not be available for release. 

Students cannot leave in between classes and have a parent/guardian call later to excuse as it is a safety issue. Any student leaving school early must check out through the office PRIOR to leaving. Otherwise, it is an unexcused absence. Work missed during unexcused absences may not be able to be made up. 

Students who leave campus without checking out through the Attendance Office will be subject to consequences, and the absence will remain unexcused. Do not pick up your student and call after the fact. If so, the absence will remain unexcused. 

IF A STUDENT LEAVES EARLY OR RETURNS TO SCHOOL LATE, THEY MUST CHECK IN AT THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE UPON ARRIVAL. 

TO EXCUSE A LATE ARRIVAL 

A parent/guardian must call the 24-Hour Attendance Hotline, 503-356-2890, before the student arrives at school, or provide the student with a note from the parent or guardian the day of the late arrival. Parents/guardians do not need to accompany the student if they have called or provided a note beforehand. 

PLEASE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION: 

• Student's full name (please spell uncommon names) 

• Student's six-digit ID number 

• Your name and relationship to the student (parent, guardian, etc). 

• Reason: 

1. Excused - Medical appointment, illness, family emergencies, etc. 

2. Unexcused - Oversleeping, missing the bus, finishing homework / studying at home, and "running late." 

STUDENTS SHOULD GO DIRECTLY TO THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE WHEN THEY ARRIVE. 

IF ABSENCES OF THREE OR MORE DAYS ARE KNOWN IN ADVANCE - 

Students are to come to the Attendance Office and get a Pre-Arranged Absence Form. This will be filled out & signed by the parent/guardian, and then all teachers will sign before it is returned to the Attendance Office. 

STUDENTS  WHO  HAVE  BEEN ABSENT HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO REQUEST AND MAKE UP ALL MISSED WORK. 

Teachers have the option to determine the length of time for completion of make-up work; the general rule is a day for a day. Student requests for homework related to absences of 3 or more days should be made to the teachers and should allow for a 24-hour response time.
